NEW ORLEANS – Wow.
You will see why here.
Boldkamp: Kansas 72-69
Best comeback in NCAA title game history. Come back for tons of coverage from Jordan Guskey and our USA TODAY network staff in New Orleans.
3:45 in the second half: Jayhawks up by 4
Armando Bacot goes to the line. This one goes down to the last minute, and maybe the last possession.
Great basketball in the second half.
7:02 in the second half: Remy 3 gives KU a small lead
Remy in the corner again. 60-57.
10:15 in the second half: Kansas has taken over this
Remy 3-pointer from the corner. Jalen Wilson and-1 outside the break. 56-50.
Reminder: Kansas runs 31-10 in the second half.
10:53 in the second half: We have a draw ball match
Ochai Agbaji has just finished an og-1 and we are tired at 50.
12:41 in the second half: We have got a match
Tighten up, we have a game.
Christian Braun just finished a beautiful 2-on-1 as Kansas is on a 12-1 run in the second half. The 15-point lead at the break for UNC is now a 46-45 lead.
15:40 in the second half: Amazing what the end of the break does
Welcome back, Kansas.
The Jayhawks attack at the break … and finish. The missing rabbits in the first half? They are falling now. The result? 45-37 under with Jalen Wilson going in line to finish and -1 at under-16 timeout.
Jordan Guskey’s halftime analysis
Jordan Guskey is in action in New Orleans. Here is his analysis from the first half:
It’s as bad a time as any other for Kansas to fight as it is at both ends of the floor. Defensively, it did not appear to be able to find an answer for North Carolina junior forward / center Armando Bacot – who already has a double-double. Offensively, the Jayhawks lack too many attempts so close to the basket, super-senior guard Remy Martin has been too quick to go up after jumpers, and he has missed too many of them, and senior guard Ochai Agbaji has not been as assertive. as his team needs that he is in this moment.
When Kansas opened the game on a run, it looked like this game could look like Villanova game coach Bill Self and the company that just won earlier in the Final Four. Instead, North Carolina found both back in the fight and took control. It’s a long task for the Jayhawks to get over this one.
Break: North Carolina 40, Kansas 25
Hi there.
2:23 in the first half: Kansas is completely out of sorts
Missing lay-ups. Repeatedly. Overgrowth of 3-point shooter. Turnover. Allow second chance point.
Sixteen missed by North Carolina. 38-22 UNC.
KU needs something urgent ASAP.
3:46 in the first half: North Carolina takes control
The good news: Armando Bacot has just got his second foul on a drive by Jalen Wilson.
The bad news: UNC has broken the game open and leads by 10 with just under four left of the first half.
The end of the first half will be great. Kansas obviously wants to tighten up again
5:05 in the first half: Brady Manek gives UNC a 6-point lead
The Kansas defense got the Jayhawks back in a draw with UNC, but then Brady Manek knocked down two 3-pointers to open up a 6-point advantage.
After the last one, a wide open mark, Bill Self immediately timed out.
Great five minute game here to close out the half.
7:53 in the first half: North Carolina makes its run
UNC has taken its biggest lead, 22-18, at the under-8 break in action. You can really see North Carolina’s Armando Bacot influencing the game at the defensive end.
Many miss on the edge to Kansas halfway through the first half (only 32 percent shots as a team).
10:24 in the first half: Remy Martin hits the first shot – a inserted 3-pointer
It’s been Remy Martin’s NCAA Tournament. After a slow start to the dynamo, Martin struck a inserted 3-pointer to give Kansas a four-point advantage.
As I write this, UNC is coming back with two marks and has it tied to 18-all.
10:45 in the first half: Defense, defense, defense
Good pace early. Not many shots in the last six minutes.
Kansas to start: 6-to-16 shooting. Meanwhile, UNC is 4-to-17.
The Jayhawks led 15-12 at the break in action, with North Carolina heading to the line for two.
13:46 in the first half: Remy Martin performs for the first time
North Carolina began to commit to getting the ball inside to Armando Bacot and got the early Kansas lead.
Now Remy Martin has just checked in for the first time.
11-9 Kansas.
16:46 in the first half: Kansas goes right by Armando Bacot
Little break in the action as North Carolina’s Brady Manek shakes McCormack’s sharp elbow – so very unintentional. Early on, you can see that Kansas is going to the excellent UNC stormman Armando Bacot.
Bacot was bumped into UNC’s Final Four victory, if you remember. 9-3 Kansas early.
18:30 in the first half: Kansas explodes out of the gates
Kansas won the lead and Ochai Agbaji teased a 3-pointer from a dribbling pass and David McCormack struck a shot on the ensuing offensive possession.
To follow, Jalen Wilson hit two free throws. Three belongings. 7 zipper cord.
