Winnipeg Jets -145 Moneyline

The Jets’ playoff hopes are weak at best, but that glimmer of light will likely keep them motivated today against a Canadiens team that is only 2-6 over their last eight home games. The Canadiens have won a couple of nice victories lately, but the last time they returned home after a road trip, they fell flat for the senators. The Jets are 6-2 in their last eight road games, and even with a ton of injuries, they are still simply the better team. The -145 does not reflect that (enough) and looks like a decent value in this place.

Pierre-Luc Dubois over 3.5 SOG +130

For props, the Jets’ side is again the side we’re likely to be on. The Canadiens allow 34.7 shots per game, the third worst mark in the league. The Dubois remain a hugely integral part of the Jets’ top-six and PP1, averaging over 19.0 minutes a game in their last 10 outings. Dubois’ shot volume may have been a bit hit or missed, but he has landed 16 on the net alone in his last four games. It’s urgent with some of the Jets’ best strikers, and the Dubois have crossed that mark in three of their last six outings. At +130, there is value in this matchup to also be over.

Captain’s candidate

Nikolaj Ehlers, Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens ($ 14,400)

The Jets have been beaten up right now and both Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele are set to miss this match, but their absence has been caught on the latest by solid play from Nikolaj Ehlers. Ehlers has always been a bit of a striped goal scorer, and right now he is shooting the puck a ton with an average of 4.7 shots on the net over his last 10 games alone. He has a total of 4.5 over / under shots on DraftKings Sportsbook and will host a Canadiens team that allows a ton of shots on goal and is still in possession of a bottom-five penalty-kill unit. If we weigh the latest form, Ehlers is the most likely Jet to produce a three-point or multiple-goal game for us, and he also comes cheaper than Kyle Connor ($ 16,200), who brings similar upwards, but is almost $ 2,000 more expensive.

Connor Hellebuyck, Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens ($ 16,800)

The Jets have not confirmed their goalkeeper today, but if it is Hellebuyck, then he will have a good shot at becoming the highest scorer in this match. The former Vezina winner has been extremely solid in the short term, having a save percentage of 0.926 over his last 10 matches. He played last night, but since the Jets were essentially going to win, it looks like we’ll see him in the net again. If anything, the back-to-back scenario may even pull people a little away from him tonight, but he remains one of the best upside options for DFS purposes if he starts.

Cole Caufield, Montreal Canadiens vs. Winnipeg Jets ($ 11,700)

If we are aiming for the Montreal Canadiens team, we should probably be prepared for a match with a higher score. The Canadiens’ goalkeepers have been terrible most of the season and they have scored five or more goals in each of their last two wins. Cole Caufield has easily been the most dangerous Canadiens striker lately and comes in with goals in each of his last four games. While we do not get too many slate-breaking kind of nights from Montreal players, the chances of Caufield breaking out are greater than a shutout or dominant night from the one starting for them in the net. Caufield should be the contradictory captaincy goal from Montreal we are aiming for today.

Flex options

Pierre-Luc Dubois, Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens ($ 8,600)

We argued for going over to Dubois’ shot total above, and the center should also be in a place to play bigger minutes tonight. Mark Scheifele is out for Winnipeg and the Dubois are coming off their best match in over 10 starts. He is a shot-first kind of center who only contributes to the upside’s appeal to a club like Montreal. In terms of price, he is also the cheapest of the Jets’ top-three forwards and makes sense to use in the flex if you are aiming for another of their big names in the CPT spot.

Josh Morrissey, Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens ($ 8,200)

With the Jets’ forward crew turned up, we’ve seen Josh Morrissey start to include more on the results list recently for the Jets. He serves as the primary quarterback on the blueline for their best power-play unit and comes in after landing 14 of his 38 points on the season with the man advantage. Morrissey has also started producing more in other categories, after hitting the blocked shot bonus in two of his last four games. He has also landed three or more shots in four of his last five. It’s expensive, but his floor may be the best of all available Jets skill players, and he correlates well with any of the big strikers.

Jeff Petry, Montreal Canadiens Vs. Winnipeg Jets ($ 6,400)

Outside of Caufield, which provides a solid contrarian captaincy choice, Petry is perhaps the most reliable Canadiens player for everyday fantasy hockey purposes, which tells you something about their team. Petry plays more of a defensive role for Montreal, but that has led to him becoming one of the leading shot-blockers in the league. The veteran has an average of 5.2 blocked shots + shots on goal per. match during its last 10 starts and has hit the DraftKings blocked shot bonus in seven of its last eight matches. Petry’s peripheral stats could easily be a big factor for Showdown given his affordable price.

Joel Armia, Montreal Canadiens vs. Winnipeg Jets ($ 2,000)

If you’re looking for a cheaper punt option, then Joel Armia makes sense as a target. The Finnish winger has been hit by a bit of a miserable offensive season (like many of Canada’s strikers), but is playing solid minutes in a third-line role and has shown some signs of life lately with three or more shots on the net in three of his last five matches. Against a tired Jets team, Armia could find a little more space today and has the kind of goal + bonus upwards we demand from such cheap players.
